Renewable Products Used Oil Collection Biodiesel Feedstock

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about Amenico and the products and services we offer...

  • Where is Amenico located?
American Energy Independence Company, Amenico is located at 5 Main Street in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. Here's a location map.
  • How much does AMENICO pay for used oil?
Because of the diversity of foods cooked in oil, time between change-outs, and different types of oils, not all waste vegetable oils (WVO’s) are the same. Some are more readily converted into renewable fuels than others. As such, each WVO must be evaluated separately. If you generate WVO, please give us a call or go to our “Used Oil Collection” area and fill out the sign up sheet. One of our sales staff will contact you to review your specific waste oils. Once a review has been completed, have confidence in knowing we offer the very best prices for your used oil.
  • What kind of fuel does AMENICO manufacture?
AMENICO manufactures a non-ester renewable diesel.

  • Are AMENICO’s renewable products environmentally friendly?
Yes, AMENICO renewable products are manufactured from recycled feedstocks and NOT from virgin food grade oils. Our products are also non-toxic, biodegradable, and carbon neutral.

  • How about emissions from AMENICO fuels?
The United States Environmental Protection Agency has preformed life cycle analyses of biodiesel produced from recycled cooking oils and found these renewable fuels produce 80% less greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than regular fossil diesel. Because of the unique energy saving manufacturing techniques AMENICO employs in manufacturing our renewable fuels, we believe our product emits 90% less GHG than regular fossil diesel fuel.

  • Is AMENICO a publically traded company?
No, AMENICO is a privately owned locally managed New Hampshire based company.

  • As a restaurant owner, I get approached by people asking to take my waste oils for use in their vehicles. Is it ok to give them the oil?
Technically speaking, no. The United States Environmental Protection Agency does not recognize waste vegetable oil as a motor fuel. Using it in an engine is a violation of the Clean Air Act and is therefore an illegal act.

  • Is it legal to use a restaurant’s waste vegetable oil in my diesel vehicle?
No, besides the damage you’ll do to your diesel engine, this practice is in violation of the Clean Air Act. In addition, over the road fuels have both federal and state excise taxes that must be paid. Not paying these excise taxes makes the act both a state and federal violation.

  • I own a restaurant and a local company pays me for my waste vegetable oil. They then turn it into biodiesel and use it for a fleet of their own vehicles. Is this legal?
Possibly. When a food service provider sells their waste oil, they should ask for appropriate documents to ensure the company removing the oil is licensed to do so and is registered with the appropriate federal and state agencies. For the rendering company to be operating fully within the law, they must have registered their biodiesel with the United States Environmental Protection Agency and they need to be paying both state and federal excise taxes on each gallon of fuel they consume. To pay excise taxes, they need to be registered with the appropriate state agency and the United States Internal Revenue Service. If all these steps have not been taken, then the company is in violation of state and federal law. The company is also unjustly forcing the rest of us to absorb the additional tax burden needed to cover for lost excise tax revenues from use of their illegal biodiesel.
